CPR courses are typically scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays and last for approximately four hours. RC MERT instructors use the AHA Professional Healthcare Provider curriculum which are valid for 2 years after completion of the course.

EMT COURSES

UR Medical Center Course

Every academic year, the University hosts an Emergency Medical Technician Basic course at the Medical Center. All members of MERT in good standing are eligible to apply via the application link at the bottom of the page.

The Emergency Medical Technician course is a demanding five month long course. Students are expected to attend all classes and laboratories. In addition, a service contract must be signed stating the student will provide RC MERT with a full year of active duty (one shift per month).

Although demanding, the course is a gateway to the world of EMS (Emergency Medical Services). After becoming an EMT-B, many graduates decide to work at ambulance agencies. Some also decide to train as Crew Chiefs with RC MERT.
