River Campus Medical Emergency Response Team - RC MERT

The River Campus Medical Emergency Response Team (RC MERT) has been serving the University of Rochester community since 1972. Responding to over 350 emergency medical calls a year, the well-trained volunteer corps, consisting of undergraduate and graduate students, delivers pre-hospital care to fellow students, faculty, staff and visitors. RC MERT is certified by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) as a first response Basic Life Support (BLS) agency.

Each crew is led by a Crew Chief who is an experienced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). RC MERT consists of approximately 100 members that meet bi-weekly to hone their EMS skills through various workshops and exercises.

RC MERT responds with a full range of medical equipment in 4 minutes (on average) to emergencies 24/7 during the academic year and also offers standby services for special events (sporting events, guest speakers etc.). RC MERT works closely with Security Services, University Health Services, and Residential Life among other organizations.
